Meet Your Hosts!
Jordan, Bridget & Reiter
We're a local Durango family that believes the best summer memories are made on the water. We've called Durango home for over 17 years, where we're raising our energetic 5-year-old son and sharing life with our pack of dogs. When we're not at the lake, you'll find us working our full-time careers and outside enjoying everything Southwest Colorado has to offer.
Starting this boat rental business has been a dream for our family. We want to help locals and visitors to experience the magic that is boating in one of the most beautiful places on earth.
We love naming our boats after the dogs who have crossed the rainbow bridge. It's our way of keeping their adventurous spirits alive and making them part of every new memory created on the water. We love having furry friends aboard so your pup is also welcome!
Whether you're visiting Durango or you're a local looking for a fun day at the lake, we're excited to share our favorite place with you and help make your day easy, relaxing, and full of smiles.
We can't wait to welcome you aboard!

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Yes. Parking passes are $10 and available at the recreation area entrance. Heads up — parking fills up fast, especially during peak season. We recommend booking an early rental time to beat the rush. In 2026, construction on Lake Nighthorse Road will further limit parking, so plan extra travel time and arrive early.
-
Absolutely. Your confirmation email includes a link to sign your rental agreement and pay your remaining balance in advance. Taking care of these steps ahead of time means less time on paperwork and more time on the water.
-
Lake Nighthorse has two parking areas — one near the beach and the Wibbet, and one near the boat launch. Head to the boat launch dock. We'll meet you there.
-
We'll walk through the boat together, show the renter and drivers how to operate it, and complete a pre-rental inspection. All passengers must sign a liability waiver before boarding. The renter/captain(s) will also sign the Rental Agreement, Pre-Rental Walk-through, and Check-Out Acknowledgement forms. Keep your group together and your gear consolidated — it keeps things moving smoothly.
-
Your rental time starts at your reserved time regardless of when you arrive. A 30-minute grace period applies for late arrivals. If you arrive more than 30 minutes after your scheduled time, your reservation will be cancelled with no refund issued.
-
Yes. Before you head out on your own, we'll take you for an orientation spin on the lake so you feel confident and comfortable operating the vessel.
-
Fishing from the boat is welcome. You're responsible for following all fishing regulations set by Colorado Parks and Wildlife. We don't provide fishing supplies, so bring your own gear.
-
Only equipment provided by High Country Boat Rentals is allowed. Towing your own water toys, tubes, skis, or wakeboards is not permitted.
-
Maximum capacity is 8 people. This includes all adults, children, infants, and pets over 15 lbs. No exceptions.
-
Fuel is included with your rental. If you use more than a full tank, the cost of a full refill will be deducted from your security deposit. There are no fuel stations at Lake Nighthorse, so keep an eye on your gauge — running out means calling for backup, and that's nobody's idea of a good time on the water.
-
Please return to the dock by your scheduled check-out time. A 15-minute grace period applies. After that, late returns are charged at $50 per 15-minute increment.
-
Mountain weather moves fast and forecasts aren't always reliable. We encourage you to dress in layers, check the forecast before you head out, and make the call that's right for your group.
Reservations remain valid unless our team determines conditions are unsafe for boating (think lightning, severe storms, or high hazardous winds). Light rain, clouds, wind, or cooler temps don't qualify for a cancellation or refund.
If we cancel your rental due to unsafe conditions, you'll have the option to reschedule or receive a full refund. If you choose not to use your reservation based on weather we haven't cancelled, it will be treated as a voluntary cancellation — no refund or credit will be issued.
-
A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm your booking. If you need to reschedule, that deposit applies to your new date. The remaining 50% is due at check-in.
No-shows will be charged the full rental price.
You may cancel at no charge if you do so within seven days of your original booking — this gives us the chance to fill the spot for that weekend.
